The Way
Making it up along the way
Since declaring ‘I’m back on the horse’ after much rumination and procrastination on a new project, I suppose that means I may move in some direction now.
‘Where do I place the first step?’ was the thought that lingered this week as I continued to resist sitting down to actually do the thing.
But as a good man named Rumi once said, “As you start to walk on the way, the way appears.”
And that it did.
Somewhere along the lines on Friday, I received an internal nudge to revisit an old A4 notepad I used to scribble a bit of everything in — ideas, goals, poems, reflections, notions — the lot. Random, I thought. But sure, amidst the million and one distractions that followed, I forgot to open the book.
Anyhow, on Saturday morning, I finally sat down to throw some sort of shape at starting. Opened up a new draft and thought to myself — ‘what am I going to call it?’
As I stared into the vast emptiness of my notepad, that’s when I got a second nudge to open the old copybook, and with it sitting on the floor beside me, I decided it was easier to flick through it than to ignore the call again.
It was cool looking back on the ideas I had written over three years ago. Some of them have since come to life. Many are still works in progress. Others, well, I just had to laugh at myself.
As I scanned through, I arrived at a page dated 10.04.23 (April 10th for the Americans reading this). The page was filled with potential newsletter titles, some of which were just straight-up cringe.
But pretty quickly, my eyes were drawn to one of the ideas — ‘The Way’.
And just like that, I had the title of my new project.

Mad. Something that didn’t fit then became the perfect title for what I’m doing now. I learned an important lesson yesterday: never throw away your ideas or ramblings — they are seeds for the future.
With that out of the way — why ‘The Way’?
You’ll have to give me till next week to explain. It’s not that it needs an entire post or that I’m trying to create suspense — it’s just that I’ve run out of time for this week. It’s almost 9 pm and I need to go to bed. You’d think after 71 weeks in a row of publishing a post, I’d have learned not to cut it this close. But here we are.
As you can see, I am making this up along the way.
Hopefully, it keeps appearing.
Till next week.
Live Free,
Niall
p.s. If you read last week’s letter, the dots are probably starting to connect on what this project is. If you haven’t, check it out here.

I am eager to read!
Waiting patiently
